Introduction

This project forms part of the Council’s Neighbourhood Renewal Scheme Programme, which takes forward improvement schemes suggested by local councillors.

Councillors from the Splott ward identified a community need for better local sports facilities and proposed a 3G football pitch on Splott Park.

Proposals

Cardiff Council are proposing a new flood-lit 3G artificial football pitch on Splott Park. The synthetic all-weather surface will allow play all-year around and transform the current neglected basketball play area into brand new facility. The pitch will be enclosed by a 5m high mesh fence with lockable gates to ensure the area is kept secure and used only for its intended purpose.

The facility will have an element of ‘free-use’ to local junior football teams and separate times for private hire. We have made contact with local club and the usage will be agreed during the construction period.

If the project receives community support, then the scheme is due to be delivered later this year and fully operational early 2020.

What’s Happening Now?

Public consultation is underway, residents in close proximity have been notified of the proposed new facility and we are holding a two-day consultation event at STAR Hub. The community will have an opportunity to view and discuss the proposed plans with a Council Officer at the event, during the following dates and times:

  • Wednesday 4th September at 3pm to 6pm – STAR HUB reception area.
  • Saturday 7th September at 9am to 1pm – STAR HUB reception area.

The project is subject to approved planning permission and this process will begin in August 2019.
