Belmont Walk and Alice Street Improvements
Cardiff Council will be making improvements to the Belmont Walk and Alice Street area of Butetown. The improvements will focus on the areas around the houses, with the aim of making a better environment for people to live in.
A second stage public consultation for the scheme took place in September 2017. The purpose of this stage was to show you our draft plans for the area and talk to residents directly affected by the proposals. We received a very positive response and most residents supported the scheme. No objections to the overall proposals were received.
We are now developing detailed design proposals, which will include further techncal studies and obtaining statutory approvals such as planning permission. We will also be speaking further with residents to reach formal agreements for improvements directly related to their properties, and will update the community as the scheme progresses.
Work has started on Phase 1 of the Belmont Walk and Alice Street environmental improvement scheme, and is progressing well. Phase 1 is focussed on renewing the courtyards of the three blocks of flats on Alice Street and Belmont Walk, with new walls and bin stores and improved paving.
Phase 2 will take place later in the year. The local environment will be significantly improved, with new front garden areas for some houses and high quality paving. The gating of some pedestrian gulleys should improve security within the area.
